A Little Letterpress Love for Sincere Cycles

ree

Let me start by saying I didn’t create this beautiful design. It’s the work of Mr. Casey Robertson of Champagne Rodman fame. I’m just the humble printmaker and facilitator of this fine little fundraiser.

Casey and I are teaming up to help our friend Bailey, who, in body and mind, is one of the toughest people I know. He’d never ask for help, but we’re going to give him a hand. Bailey’s shop in Santa Fe, Sincere Cycles, was recently hit with back-to-back break-ins. Sales from this limited run of two-color letterpress prints will help him recover a small piece of the loss.

Your first thought might be, “That sucks, but he probably has insurance.” And you’d be right—he does. But the reality is more complicated. Filing a claim would certainly spike his rates and potentially cost him more in the long run. Plus, as a one-man band, Bailey can’t spend his days arguing with adjusters and fussing over paperwork. If he’s not fixing or selling bikes, the bills don’t get paid. The system isn’t built for businesses like Bailey’s, so he paid to replace the windows and swallowed the cost of the stolen bikes—all out of pocket.

Bike retail is a tough business in the best of times. These aren’t the best of times. The industry’s brutal right now, and losing a fleet of spendy bikes off the showroom floor is just salt in the wound.

There’s also the damage you can’t insure against—the bruised heart, the rattled head. I’ve been there. We had a couple of break-ins at my old shop. For weeks after, you’re haunted... scanning the streets for your stolen bikes, side-eyeing anyone who lingers by the door or peers through the window too long. It’s the pits.

I’m hoping this print run can put some dollars back into Bailey’s pocket and show him the brighter side of humanity for a change.

These are 5x7 two-color letterpress prints on 80# Index Off-White cardstock from French Paper, printed on a 1936 Vandercook #4.

They’re $20 each. If you want to go bigger for Bailey, select the $50 “Go Big” option, and you’ll get a Mordecai pocketbook and sticker pack from me. If you want to go biggest for Bailey, go buy a bike from him. 95% of sales will go directly to Bailey. The other 5% goes to packaging and processing fees. I am donating my time, ink, and paper. I will not make a profit.

The deadline to order is Sunday, August 31.

Delivery in Sept/Oct.

Thank you.
